How people use it
Quoting from a document
Copy an exact clause or paragraph instead of retyping it from a page image.
Searching a long file
Get the whole text in one block so you can search it with your browser.
Moving content between tools
Paste the text into a document, a spreadsheet note or your own writing.
Checking what an AI tool will see
See exactly the text any analysis is based on, before you rely on it.
What happens after your free result
The extraction is literal: it is your document's text, not a rewrite. If the file is a scanned image with no text layer, you are told that rather than given an empty or invented result.
A full analysis of one document costs €4.99 as a one-time payment, or €19.99 for five. It is only offered when your document genuinely supports one.
PDF to Text questions
- Is PDF to Text free?
- Yes. The result the page promises is delivered in full, with no payment and no account. The published limits apply: 8 MB per file, 40 pages, and 3 free questions per document.
- Which file types work?
- PDF, DOCX and TXT, or text pasted directly. Scanned image-only PDFs have no text layer, so they cannot be read — you are told that instead of receiving an invented result.
- Can I get the result in another language than the document?
- Yes. Choose your results language before uploading. A German document can be processed and the result returned in English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese or Romanian.
- Does it work on scanned PDFs?
- No. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page with no text layer. Optical character recognition is not part of the service, and returning nothing honestly is better than returning a guess.
- Is the layout preserved?
- The text is extracted in reading order with paragraph breaks kept. Columns, tables and page furniture may flatten, because a text file has no layout.
